Humber Takes a Major Step Forward in Becoming the UK’s Leading Marine Energy Park

08/07/2010

Yorkshire Forward has supported the significant economic development opportunities offered by the Humber estuary over a number of years.

The potential for the creation of tens of thousands of jobs in the region through the off shore wind sector is strongly recognised by the growing global industry.

Able UK’s plan to create a manufacturing park to accommodate part of this development potential are a major step forward and have been welcomed by the agency.

Wind turbine manufacturers require large land banks with bespoke infrastructure in the right location and the Humber estuary offers such facilities in close proximity to three of the government’s land free off shore wind farms.

Yorkshire Forward is keen for the Humber and the wider region to reap the full economic benefits of the massive expansion of offshore wind farms. The RDA has undertaken a targeted strategy to engage with key players in the industry and has introduced a number of these to land owners such as Able UK and ABP.

Simon Hill, Executive Director of Business at Yorkshire Forward commented; “Yorkshire and Humber has a lot to offer the offshore wind sector. Any investment that can actively unlock significant economic and employment potential and enable sites within the region to be major centres for renewable energies is welcome.

“This development provides an excellent strategic fit with the needs of the offshore wind sector. It is widely regarded that an East Coast Cluster is required to facilitate the growth that this industry requires.

“As a region we offer the right location, but more importantly have a number of private sector partners that are committed to this industry and fulfilling the vision of offshore wind.
