St George’s Square, Huddersfield is complete

The recent completion of redevelopment work at St George’s Square in Huddersfield has revived a public square and created an attractive space for events. And the impressive lighting, large water cascade and eight jet fountains are already proving a big hit with locals and visitors alike.

What impact has the redevelopment had?

The redeveloped square is located right in front of Huddersfield’s imposing railway station, and brings together key transport facilities (bus, train and taxi) in one convenient location. A positive knock-on effect has already been felt since work on St George’s Square began, with a number of previously empty nearby properties being converted into restaurants, offices and apartments.

What is Yorkshire Forward’s connection with this work?

Yorkshire Forward has invested £1.8m to support design and planning fees, widespread consultation and construction. The £4m square revival stems from the strategic development framework for the economic regeneration of Huddersfield town centre, which describes the vision for Huddersfield as a place composed of beautiful public squares, parks and gardens, linked by active and vibrant streets.
