Hornsea
Hornsea is a small seaside town situated about half way between Spurn Point and Bridlington. The seafront boasts a long stretch of promenade and a Blue Flag beach. Part of the town centre is within a Conservation Area and there are several historical buildings including Bettison's Folly and St Nicholas' Church. The old town grew up on the edge of Hornsea Mere, which was formed during the last Ice Age and is Yorkshire's largest freshwater lake.
Hornsea was part of the Market Towns Initiative and also the Renaissance Market Towns Programme. As part of these programmes significant funding was provided to produce a Masterplan for the town and a number of feasibility studies including a cultural study and a visitor study.
Hornsea has been identified as East Riding’s ‘rural capital’ meaning it has been earmarked for potential Yorkshire Forward Investment from 2009.
